All About Cataracts
Cataracts are a common eye condition that affects many people, especially those over the age of 60. Cataracts occur when the natural lens in the eye becomes cloudy, causing blurry vision and difficulty seeing in low light conditions. It can also cause a noticeable decrease in color perception and increased glare symptoms.
Cataract surgery is a common and fairly simple procedure aimed at improving vision that has been compromised by cataracts. During the surgery, the cloudy, natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial one, known as an intraocular lens, or IOL. The procedure is typically done on an outpatient basis and takes less than an hour to complete. In most cases, patients can return to their regular activities the day after the surgery.
Cataract surgery has a high success rate, with most patients experiencing significant improvement in their vision. Overall, cataract surgery can be considered a safe, effective, and routine treatment option. We co-manage with several great ophthalmologists in the area when the time is right for cataract surgery.
