Dry Eye- Are Your Eyelids Causing Your Symptoms?

Do you wake up with red, crusty eyes that are hard to open? Are your eyes gritty, watery, and blurry throughout the day?  As ocular surface disease symptoms worsen, reading, driving, and computer work may become really frustrating.
Your eyelids are far more than lashes and skin. They can build up an excessive amount of oily residue, bacteria, allergens, biofilm and even demodex mites. This accumulation is typically subtle and hard to see with the naked eye.  A thorough eye exam is necessary to detect problems on your eyelids that can make dry eye symptoms worse.

Often your eye care provider will prescribe the regular use of warm, moist compresses and a gentle eyelid cleanser with hypochlorous solution for long term eyelid health and maintenance of symptoms.

For more chronic or severe cases, a gentle in-office lid procedure such as ZEST, or Zocular Eyelid System Treatment, may be more effective. The procedure uses a patented system with activated okra to thoroughly clean and optimize the health of your eyelids without the trauma or discomfort associated with traditional eyelid debridement processes.  In most cases, your eyes look and feel better immediately.

After you receive the ZEST treatment in our office, there are several options for an at-home regimen to maintain and accentuate the benefits from ZEST.
